IE 7 or Mozilla FireFox 2.0?

by Jem

Hmm... I just downloaded IE7 and well, I must say that I'm impressed =D

Internet Explorer 7
Microsoft decided to wake up their idea by increasing the efficiency of IE, thus allowing it to start up faster, almost equivalent to Firefox, if not better... The idea of IE 7 is to work with Vista, so no doubt that we'd be expecting greater performance when the time comes ;)

Of course, one can't help but rip on IE =D Tab-surfing, how long was it when Netscape first came up with the idea, that was adopted by Firefox and Safari (both using NS engines), 5-6 years? For those who do not have a clue what Tab-surfing is; it's the ability to open multiple windows within a single browser, reducing the stigma of having filled your taskbar with loads of webpages. In short, lots of webpages, 1 browser opened. It's good that MS decided to wake up and adopt the idea, now, if only MSN Messenger follows suit.

Next, what's the point of having a Google Toolbar with a Google search engine when there is a Google search engine attached to the address bar? Somewhat like Firefox, but Mozilla was smarter, they didn't make the Google Toolbar a default add-on. The least MS could have done was to take out the search engine or make it an option... Again, the Google TB has a few redundant features, bookmarks and number of sites/ items blocked... Honestly, we can live with 1 bookmark manager, we don't need repeats.

RSS support, not very friendly, it only detects a site's RSS capability; does not allow a Live Update option, unlike Firefox's Bookmark Toolbar (see Features). Meaning to say that you'll have to grab a third-party feed-reader.

Customizations, MS decided to take out the Top-menu bar, allowing more peripheral viewing, Kudos to MS for having thought of it, defective though... Now, all the menu options are in 1 button below the address bar, making it look weird and alot of usual functions screwed up. Mozilla, again a step ahead, reduced the size of everything at the top and gain the same results with little change in operation.

That's all I can say and see for now, for more reviews, head on down to Google and Google it! Overall, for average user who's still uses IE, IE7 is GREAT. For someone who's used to seeing Netscape, Safari or Firefox, IE7 just looks like it boot-licked ideas... What's new? Windows vs MAC OS 8 onwards? FYI, the Interactive User Interface you see now on XP started from Win 3.0, couple of years after Apple released the same concept. ;)
